To all my readers, my posts are here to help you with questions you might have about designing your home and also to raise important points about design that you might not think about. We can ask questions about what we know or about what we don’t know, but we can’t ask questions about what we don’t know that we don’t know.

How to Choose a Sofa?

There are many different sofas out there. You might think you know exactly what you want, but once you walk into a store, physically or online, the styles, shapes, and different alternatives can become overwhelming.

The first thing to consider is size.

Everything looks small in a store, the stores are a big open space and we might think that the size is good. I suggest you don’t leave your house before taking all the measurements for the sofa space. Many times people buy a safe and when it gets to their home it is much bigger than what they thought. If your living room is small it’s better not to buy a sectional. a regular sofa with 2 small chairs will fit much better and will look good as well.

Analyze your lifestyle.

What do you do most in that space? Make sure your couch faces the right direction that you would like it to face. Make sure how you want to organize all your other furniture in the room, this way you will be getting the right choice for your room.
If you love hosting you can create a semi-circle around a central table. Do you need a place to relax and read? make sure you have enough space to add a floor lamp for reading.

Determine which shape will suit the room best.

Now that you’ve decided on your space functionality, it’s time to decide on the shape of your sofa. A sectional is great for open areas that are not too small it can also function as a separating element from the dining room.

Sofa materials are also very important.

Which will be best for you? Do you have small kids? Do you like a sofa that will popup in the room. Functionality is key when it comes to choosing a material for your sofa, but also your sofa needs to work with everything else in the room. It has to work with the style, colors, and textures. Suede can be a poor choice if you have pets or small children who will cause some serious damage.

Sofa is not the first thing you choose when it comes to design.

Many people build their room design around the sofa, but that will be a mistake. Choose your colors textures and style. Choose where. you would like it to go, how many people you would like it to seat and how much you want to spend on it. An expensive sofa not necessarily will make the room look better, the other elements in the room are essential as well, usually more.

When it comes to choosing a sofa go for functionality, a color that fits the room design, and comfort. If you buy in a store seat on it and make sure it is comfortable. If you buy online read the reviews that other people wrote. Look for the less good review to see what was the problem.
