To all my readers, my posts are here to help you with questions you might have about designing your home and also to raise important points about design that you might not think about. We can ask questions about what we know or about what we don’t know, but we can’t ask questions about what we don’t know that we don’t know.

Focal Point

The TV became the focal point since there isn't one

What is a focal point and how do I determine where it is in the room?

It may sound strange to you but there is always a focal point in a room whether you created it or not. It is always important to create a focal point because If you didn’t create it, it will be created by itself.

Usually, the focal point in a room will be the first thing/place our eyes will go to once we step inside a room. It could be a wall, a big picture, a bed, etc.

Keep in mind that when you start a room design, you would want to choose the correct place for the focal point and create an element or that will pop up to us once we step in.

A few pictures added to his post to show you focal points that were chosen in advance or those that were created because no focal point was chosen.

Sometimes, when no focal point was created, our eyes will wander in the room and it will feel to us like the room was not finished. when you ask multiple people what is the focal point in that room, you will get many answers and not one.

When a focal point is created on purpose, there will be only one answer.

I hope that helps you understand how to create a focal point and why it is important to create it.
